Although I do want to agree with the direction of the article, I am lossing faith in the bricks & mortar stores because they only seem to want to flog mass market and not cater or encourage more diverse tastes.

Having said that when I was in San Franscisco recently, I had a little bit of time spare and came across Rasputin Records. This is how record shops should be, rough around the edges - with that feeling you'd get that Nick Hornby captured in High Fidelity. Four stories of this within a block of Union Square!

I have just changed mobiles from a Samsung Soul to an iPhone. As much as it is a brilliant app platform it does have a few annoying absences on the phone front. For example the Soul had multiple modes such as car, outside, meeting and so on. Groups on the Soul can be given ringtones as well as individuals (an app opportunity to create the effect?)

My last critism is the predictive text isn’t as quick as the Soul. Although that maybe partly because of the full keyboard.

Final observation is that the Bluetooth could easily offer a lot more without needing to resort to jailbreak.

I have to say although the article raises some interesting points, I am not entirely sold on all the arguments. But make your own mind up - article here.
